For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:29 (NKJV)
Romans 8:29 says that those whom God foreknew (which is everyone), He also predestined. What does it mean to be predestined? It means God had a plan for you ahead of time. And what is the plan? It is to be conformed to the image of His Son, Jesus.
This verse doesn’t say that God predestined a particular function or position for you. What you have been predestined to be is like Jesus.
Now, let’s make something clear. You received the Spirit and nature of Christ into your spirit the moment you gave your life to Him. You’re a child of God. That’s your identity.
This doesn’t mean you’re perfect. Your habits, thoughts, priorities and choices don’t always reflect that nature of God within you. In other words, you don’t always act like your dad, even though you’re His child. But when it comes to that outward behaviour, you can be conformed into the image of His Son, Jesus.
How can you get your actions to line up? You can study God’s Word to get to know God better and therefore discover what you are destined to be like. Then you can choose to align your thoughts, values and priorities with your Father’s, one decision at a time.
You are a child of God, and your destiny is to be like Jesus in all your ways. Make His Word your focus and live your life filled with His love, in a beautiful relationship with Him, just as Jesus did.
