Wisdom Is Calling Out

Because you disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes. Proverbs 1:25–26 (NKJV)

Over the years, I’ve noticed two kinds of Christians I’d like to highlight today.

The first are Christians who don’t believe in the miraculous. They don’t think God will get involved in their situation, so they live “by the sweat of their brow,” trying to work for results.

The others are “miracle Christians.” They believe they can do whatever they want, and just cry out to God for a miracle when they’re in trouble. Ideally, these two kinds of believers would benefit from learning a thing or two from each other.

You see, miracles are real, but wisdom is also important! When I was a teenager, my dad challenged me to read a chapter of Proverbs every day. One of the verses in Proverbs chapter 1 shocked me. It’s saying that when calamity comes, I will laugh at you.

What? God can’t be that harsh! But if you read verse 20, it doesn’t say God is speaking. It says this is wisdom talking.

Often, we don’t have a miracle problem, we have a wisdom problem. Many situations we face in our lives aren’t because the devil is so strong—he’s a defeated foe. It’s not because God is reluctant and withholding your miracle–all His promises to us are Yes and Amen! Many times, the problem is that we have not developed wisdom in that area.

God loves to do miracles in our lives, and at the same time, Proverbs says wisdom is calling out to us in the streets (Proverbs 1:20). Don’t limit yourself to one or the other. You can trust God to add His miraculous power to your situation as you apply wisdom to every area of your life!
