Whose Words Rule Your Life?

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20 (NLT)

There are a lot of things that we allow to stop or limit us, often without realizing it.

Years ago, a great series was put together for pastors called “How to break the 300 barrier”. It was about how to grow a congregation beyond 300 members. The information was great, but I sensed God encouraging me to ignore the number in the title, since it could influence me to view 300 as some sort of impossible barrier to grow beyond.

Years later, around the same time that a news article reported there would never be mega-churches in Canada, our church surpassed 2,000 members! Today, our congregation is over 10,000 wonderful people. Imagine what would have happened if I had become focused on 300 as a barrier!

Since then, whenever I read or study something, I always ask myself, “Am I allowing any of this information to limit me?”. If I allow the words I read to create barriers in my mind, they become like curses to me.

For example, if my doctors mention something about my health and I’m operating from a place of fear, their words become like a curse. But if I come from a place of faith, I receive the doctor’s words as appreciated advice. Two people can hear the same thing and one will take it as useful direction while the other becomes instantly limited as they allow fear and worry to grow in their heart.

The more we consistently plant God’s Word in our hearts, the less we’ll allow others’ words to control us.

Let what God says rule over every are of your life!
