WHOSE SIDE IS GOD ON?

My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side! Psalm 56:9 (NLT)

When I was younger and didn’t understand God’s Word very well, I feared that every storm blowing against me was God trying to teach me something.

Of course, now I know better. But I have come across many people who believe—or were mistakenly taught—the same incorrect doctrine. Now, can we learn lessons from adversity? Absolutely. However, when it comes to learning from experience, Holy Spirit is a much better teacher than any trial could be.

That’s why it gives me a confidence boost to know that when any storm messes with me, Holy Spirit is my personal helper, advocate, intercessor and comforter. He is on my side, teaching and guiding me.

Here’s my strategy for handling storms. Whenever a storm arises in my life, I say, “Hey, Father, is there anything I need to change? Have I done anything to let this storm in?” If I have, I’ve learned lesson number one: don’t do it again. Then I go ahead and handle the issue.

If I look at my life and know I’m doing what God has called me to do, I stand up confidently against the storm because I know God is not behind it. He’s on my side against it!

King David understood this. He declared, “The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” (Psalm 118:6, NLT).

The truth is, God does not send storms to teach His children lessons. John 10:10 says He gives us abundant life, not difficulties, hardship or suffering. He is with you and for you in every way.

It is life-changing when you recognize God is on your side!
