When The Storm Lasts

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:13

According to Ephesians 6:10-18, we as believers can arm ourselves with the armour of God: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet fitted with peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit and prayer. Each piece of armour represents a belief system from God’s Word that we need to renew our minds in so we can be strong during the trials of life.

But even if we stay in faith through troubled times, it doesn’t mean that we’ll automatically sail through in the blink of an eye. Sometimes we need to just keep putting one foot in front of the other for what feels like a very long time. This is when patience is most powerful.

It’s easy to stay in faith for a short while, but when the storm drags on, fear and doubt threaten to sneak in. We need patience—which means we need to wait with a positive expectation.

Maybe you’ve been believing God for a family. After years of trying, you’re finally pregnant, but now the doctors are telling you that there might be something wrong. Or maybe you finally saved up enough to start that business that you’ve always dreamed of, but trouble with one of your major contracts is threatening to close you down.

Don’t give up now! Keep that shield of faith up. Hang on to that positive expectation by claiming what we’ve been promised in God’s Word. Stand your ground, because God’s promises are yours.
