The heavens are the LORD’S heavens, but the earth he has given to the children of man. Psalms 115:16 (ESV)
Who has the authority to bring change into our lives? We do!
In the beginning, God gave the human race authority on this planet, and that fact hasn’t changed. This spiritual law is so set in stone that even God had to enter the world in a human body in order to bring change!
He also modelled how to initiate change in our lives—by speaking. By faith, God spoke the world into existence. And He placed that same kind of power and faith in us when He created mankind. This is also how we deal with deep-rooted misbeliefs that fuel feelings of inadequacy.
We need to know we’ve got authority and the way to exercise it is to speak God’s Word.
In Genesis 1:28 (ESV), God told Adam and Eve to subdue the earth and have dominion over every living thing that moves on it. God shared this with them before Satan deceived Eve in the garden.
In Genesis chapter three, a conversation unfolded between the serpent and Eve, yet the scripture doesn’t mention any reaction from Adam until after he ate the fruit. Adam had full authority to speak to that snake—to subdue it and kick it out of the garden—yet he was silent.
We hold this same authority, yet how often do we listen to the enemy’s lies just as Adam and Eve did and forget that we can exercise our authority over him? Imagine how different history would be if they had exercised their God-given authority and disputed the serpent’s lies. Now, imagine how different your story could be if you began to speak the truth of God’s Word over your life!
