Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord. Ephesians 5:19
Have you ever wondered why almost every type of church service involves some sort of singing? Why do praise and singing seem to go hand-in-hand?
Let’s take a look at a few Bible verses that talk about praising God. So many Psalms talk about singing, music and worship. Psalm 30:4 says to sing the praises of the Lord. Psalm 81:1 talks about singing for joy and shout aloud. And in the New Testament, the message doesn’t change. Colossians 3:16 and Ephesians 5:19 talk about singing songs from the Spirit and making music from the heart, and about singing to God with gratitude in our hearts. And 1 Corinthians 14:15 mentions singing to praise God, either using words you understand or by singing in the Spirit. Paul said, “I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.”
We can sing songs together that praise God, but we can just as easily sing and praise God when we’re in the shower or in our cars. Sometimes we get the idea that worship needs to be sombre. There’s a place for that kind of worship, but there’s an aspect to praise where we can
also laugh and dance as we worship God, and he enjoys that kind of worship just as much!
God loves the praises of his people, and he loves it when you sing!
