Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet…the harp and lyre…timbrel and dancing…strings and pipe…clash of cymbals…. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Psalm 150:3-6
Over the last several days we’ve been discussing different ways to praise God. Praising God is a great way to become more conscious of
his presence in us as believers, which is something we need every day.
We’ve talked about the many ways to praise God that are mentioned in the Bible. We can sing, shout, make joyful noise, laugh, give thanks, stand, kneel, clap, dance and lift our hands. Making music is one more way to praise God that is mentioned (see Psalm 150:3-6 and 2 Samuel 6:5).
Musical instruments have a beautiful effect on us. God knows that rhythm and music move us. Whether you play an instrument with skill or you just enjoy keeping the beat to your favourite praise and worship song,
you can praise God by making music, and it’s a great way to become more aware of the presence of God.
Our God is limitless, and there are limitless ways to praise him. As we’ve been covering ways to praise God, I hope you’ve been inspired to realize that praising him isn’t about following strict parameters. It’s about the heart. If you’re overcome by the beauty of nature while taking a walk, expressing appreciation for God’s creation is a way of praising him. You could be enjoying a game of baseball and think, “Wow, Father, this is great!” In that moment, you’re praising God.
What do you love to do? What moves your heart and makes you feel grateful? If you turn your attention toward God in those moments, then you’re praising him, and he loves it!
