Vision is more than just a bunch of words on a page.
Some think that their vision is just their mission statement or motto. Although these hint at vision, it’s much more. Vision is an actual picture of the future.
And when it comes down to it, it all starts with a belief.
What you believe is powerful. If you believe you can do something, you will develop the skills and attract the right team. Of course, skill development is important too. However, if you don’t believe something is possible, you won’t achieve it.
Actually, the greatest battle you will fight on the road to success is the one that takes place in your own heart. I use the word ‘heart’ here and not ‘mind’ to make a point. We all have doubts about our abilities now and then. We have insecure moments and we wonder if we’re cut out to lead. However, deep down you need to know that you are in the right place. At your core, in your heart, you need to develop a vision so compelling that you won’t allow anything to stop it.
How do you develop this kind of unstoppable vision? Spend some time picturing where you want to be.
Picture your vision until it’s crystal clear. Picture what you want to achieve as well as why you want to achieve it. Out of that vision, you will get creative and will attract the people you need to make it happen.
If you have a setback, don’t let it make you doubt your vision. Everybody hits a plateau every now and then. When you do, don’t waste a lot of time trying to determine what’s wrong with you. Stay focused on the vision. You can break through that barrier and move on.
You might even need to get a little unreasonable. Renowned playwright George Bernard Shaw once said, “The reasonable man adapts himself to the world, the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”
By this definition, you need to be unreasonable to carry out any kind of vision. Your vision is unreasonable because it pushes past the norm, not because it is impossible. It takes new ground. It makes a change. And when you focus on why you are passionate about it, you convince yourself further that you are able to carry it out because you simply can’t accept anything but success. It’s that important to you.
What is your vision? Why is it vital that you achieve that vision? Picture yourself achieving it and focus on what this means to you. You’ll be one step closer to making it happen.
