TRAINING YOUR HEART (PART 2)

Leon Fontaine Devoted

“Let the words from the book of the law be always on your lips. Meditate on them day and night so that you may be careful to live by all that is written in it. If you do, as you make your way through this world, you will prosper and always find success.” Joshua 1:8 (VOICE)

Yesterday we discovered our ability to live like Jesus in this world—with the power of God alive in us wherever we go. But to tap into this power, we have to train our hearts the way athletes train their bodies.

Today and tomorrow we’re going to look at four ways to give your heart a daily spiritual workout.

  1. Meditate on the Word.

We feed our bodies every day, but often forget to feed our hearts. Yet taking time to regularly study, ponder and imagine God’s Word at work in your life is crucial. What you read last week is not enough to feed you today. You need a continuous diet of fresh revelation.

  1. Practice the Word.

Some Christians are all theory, no practice. They love to debate doctrine. I always stop them and ask, “So how is that working for you? Are you seeing those promises and principles working in your life?” Knowing God’s Word is vital, but if it’s not affecting your life, something is missing.

I challenge you: when you read the Word, start putting it into practice immediately. If you read a verse about thankfulness, don’t plan to express gratitude tomorrow. Do it today!

Tomorrow we’ll look at two more ways to train your heart. As you begin doing these things on a regular basis, you exercise your faith and walk in the power of God.
