TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE?

Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

Isaiah 53:1 (NKJV)

The truth of what Jesus has done for us is so amazing that the prophet Isaiah wondered who would believe it. He wrote, “Who would have thought God’s saving power would look like this?”

(Isaiah 53:1, The Message).

Isaiah’s prophetic look at Jesus in Isaiah 53 starts out by describing the Saviour of the world as an ordinary man with “no stately form or majestic splendor” (v. 2, AMP). He certainly wasn’t what the Jews were expecting.

Yet Jesus was exactly what God had in mind all along. The plan was for Jesus to “give himself as an offering for sin so that he’d see life come from it—life, life, and more life” (Isaiah 53:10, The Message).

Isaiah foresaw that the Saviour would “make many ‘righteous ones,’ as he himself carries the burden of their sins” (vv. 11–12, The Message). He was amazed that we could become completely right with God because of this Saviour. Not only that, but Isaiah 53:5 also says, “by His stripes (wounds) we are healed” (AMP), a message that is echoed in 1 Peter 2:24. This good news seemed almost too good to be true—so much so that Isaiah wondered who would believe it!

There are several layers to what Jesus accomplished for us and we’ll get into each one over the next few days. For today, really think about how awesome this good news is. By accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you get in on the most incredible deal ever struck in the history of mankind. You become one hundred percent right with God and have His healing power within you. Let’s never take this good news for granted!
