God’s Word is so potent that as you meditate on it, your very desires and motives begin to change. But many people don’t understand this meditative process. Meditation goes deeper than reciting verses or reading something over and over.

Words are the language of the mind, but the language of the heart is images and emotion. What does that look like? It takes imagination. You could look at Nehemiah 8:10, which says “the joy of the Lord is my strength.” As you meditate on it, imagine yourself rolling out of bed each morning with a smile on your face. See yourself walking in unbeatable joy.

As you decide to focus on the Word, you may struggle to concentrate at first. I’ve found it helps to silence my phone or put it in another room. I also keep a notepad nearby where I can jot down any distracting to-dos that pop into my mind. For some, playing worship music or nature sounds in the background helps to slow their mind down.

The important thing is to take time each day to fill your heart with the Word. Speak it out loud, imagine God’s promises at work in your life, mix faith with what you’re hearing and ask Holy Spirit to guide you.

You’ll find incredible strength rising up inside you as God’s Word begins to clean out your old beliefs and replace them with truth!
