The Prayer Of Commitment

Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV)

Over the past few days we have been discussing the eight different kinds of prayer you have at your disposal as a Christian. Think of these types of prayer as weapons in your arsenal. The more skilled you become with them, the more confident, competent and faith-filled you’ll be.

Today we will talk about the prayer of commitment. First Peter 5:7 sums up this prayer well. When you pray the prayer of commitment, you are casting your cares on God. You’re committing the problem you are facing to Him.

For example, let’s pretend that someone at work or school seems to have it out for you. You’ve tried talking to them. You’ve been kind, encouraging and you’ve even forgiven them for all the hurtful things they’ve said about you, but nothing seems to help.

It’s time to commit the problem to God.

As you continue to do all you can to get along with this person, trust God with the situation. Pray something like, “Father, I don’t know how to make this situation better, but I know You do. I’m asking You to get involved.” Then trust Him. Don’t worry about it. Keep doing whatever you can, but have peace about it because when you get the maker of the universe involved, you know that something is going to change!

Pray this prayer and trust Holy Spirit to get involved in your children’s lives. Trust Him to go to work on your spouse’s heart. Just walk in love, do what you can and commit the issue to God. Cast that care onto Him because you were not designed to carry the weight of those cares on your own.
