The Power To Be Free

We know that our old self [ our human nature without the Holy Spirit ] was nailed to the cross with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. Romans 6:6 (AMP)

Have you ever struggled to break a bad habit?

When we try to break out of bad habits or negative ways of thinking, sometimes we end up thinking it’s useless. We’ve been conditioned to believe that we can’t break free, but it’s not true.

When you gave your life to Jesus Christ, you were born again. You were born into a different family. Actually, you were born into a different class of being—you are now a child of God.

As a child of God, you have more than willpower at your disposal. First John 4:17 says that we are as Jesus is in this world. Following Jesus doesn’t just gain us forgiveness of sins, as awesome as that is. As believers, we have the Spirit and nature of the Father within us; we no longer have the nature of sin and Satan. His Spirit and nature empower us to free ourselves of those limiting beliefs and habits as we keep planting God’s Word in our hearts.

If you fall back into old habits, does it mean you’ve lost that new nature? No, it takes time to replace old belief systems with God’s, but your nature is set. That old self was crucified with Jesus. It’s dead and gone and you are no longer a slave to sin.

Trust that you’ve been made new, and start looking for ways to fulfill every desire you have God’s way, because you have God’s nature within you! You can develop good habits and enjoy things that are good for you and everyone around you.
