“Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the mind and healing to the body” Proverbs 16:24 (AMP)
Words have power. They can make you blush, bring you to tears or cause your heart to race. They affect the way you feel, think and view yourself. Your words can also destroy others. Angry, out-of-control words hurt. Both gossip and criticism can do irreparable damage to relationships. They can also negatively affect how others think and feel about the person you speak of.
The Bible teaches us that the words you speak have an effect on your entire being. Proverbs 18:21 says that the words you choose actually bring death or life into your world. According to Proverbs1 6:24, they affect both your mind and body.
We would all love to be more in control of our words, especially when we are having an emotional reaction, but we cannot do it on our own. We need Holy Spirit’s help.
When you are led by Holy Spirit, He helps you to control your words. As you learn to “walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit],” you exhibit more of the fruit of the Spirit, one of which is self-control (Galatians 5:16,23, AMP).
In a world surrounded with negativity and bad news, it may feel like an uphill struggle to speak positively, but you can do it. Ask Holy Spirit today to help you speak about only the beauty in others.
