The Law Has No Power

For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are. Romans 3:20 (NLT)

The Old Testament laws that God gave to us are amazing. They teach us what it is right and wrong; they show us a way to live that is most beneficial to us and everyone around us. However, the law contains no power to help you keep it.

Let me give you an illustration to show you what I mean. When you get up in the morning, you likely look in the mirror. You may even have a magnifying mirror to help you see every blemish. The purpose of the mirror is to expose your blemishes. You could pull the mirror off the wall and rub it on the blemish, but it has no ability to get rid of the flaw. Its purpose is only to show you the blemish.

The same is true with the law. It exposes the sin in your life but has no power to help you clean it up. It shows you that without Jesus, you don’t stand a chance. We are all hopelessly imperfect, but thankfully we rely on Jesus’ perfection, not ours when we give our lives to Him.

If studying what is right and wrong doesn’t empower you to do right, what does? You gain true power to change once you realize you are a new creation and have been given a new nature in Christ Jesus.

It’s time to get up and be free! Focus on Jesus Christ today. Realize what He has done for you and be empowered to overcome every bad habit.
