For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 1 John 5:4 (NKJV)
When you’re going through a tough time in life, the devil loves to remind you of all your faults and failures. He wants you to stay focused on what you lack, not on all that you have within you and available to you as a new creation in Christ.
In times like these, you need to respond to his tactics by saying, “I may not have what it takes on my own, but that’s irrelevant. I have Holy Spirit in me, so I have everything I need!”
As a believer, you are brand new, and nothing has the power to hold you captive. According to 1 John 5:4, EVERY person born of God overcomes. You can have victory through Jesus over absolutely everything, and it gives us the key: faith.
Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (NKJV). It involves seeing your answer to prayer before it actually happens and calling “things which do not exist as though they did” (Romans 4:17, NKJV). When you pray for something that God has promised you in His Word, the confident belief that you will receive it is called faith.
This Christian life is a faith life. What you believe, you experience. So be careful what you listen to and watch. Read what the Bible says about you and start to meditate on it and confess it out loud until you begin to believe it.
The truth is you’re a new creation in Christ! This means you’re more than a conqueror! You’re an overcomer! You’re born of God, and you can do great and awesome things with Him!
