But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach).” Romans 10:8 (NKJV)
If you want to move your life from where it is right now to where you want it to be, you’re going to need to understand today’s verse, because it holds the key to success in every area of life.
There are two things mentioned in this verse: the mouth and the heart. Today we’ll talk about the heart, which is very important. You see, God’s Word is only powerful if it is believed.
We are taught to claim God’s Word out loud. We can speak God’s promises, but the power isn’t in the speaking alone. If that were true, God’s Word would be like a spell. God’s Word is truth and it is full of faith, so as you speak and meditate on His Word, faith grows in your heart. And when you begin to believe it in your heart, that’s when you start to walk in God’s promises for your life.
Romans 10:9-11 go on to talk about salvation, so some assume that today’s verse refers only to accepting Jesus into your life and becoming saved. While speaking and believing certainly are involved here, we have to remember that salvation doesn’t only apply to being saved from hell. In the original language, it referred to being saved from the entire curse of the law—saved from sickness and poverty, and everything that threatens to keep us in bondage here on the planet.
What is the key to victory? Speaking, meditating on and believing God’s promises!
God’s will is for us to live “on earth is as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). Keep studying and claiming His promises until you believe it!
