But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 14:26 (NKJV)

Have you ever received bad advice from someone? Although counsel can be invaluable, we have to be careful about whose advice we trust.

When it comes to Holy Spirit, however, His counsel is always perfect and His solutions are win-win. In fact, that’s why He’s referred to as our Counselor in the Amplified version of John 14:26.

How do we receive counsel from Holy Spirit? When we spend time in God’s Word and in prayer, we can ask Him to show us what we need to know. And He isn’t limited to revealing only what we would consider spiritual truths to us.

Holy Spirit wants to counsel you to make great business decisions and to build a great marriage. Maybe you’re struggling with a disrespectful teenager who is acting out. Should you lay down the discipline? Should you be more loving? Should you ground them? Should you talk with them? There are so many options, but if you spend time in God’s presence, His Spirit will counsel you, prompt you to make the right choices. You might get an impression of what you need to do, or maybe you just notice that in your interactions, you have higher level of clarity about how to respond. That’s Holy Spirit!

If you stay tuned in to Holy Spirit you will receive His insight as you read God’s Word. Other times, that insight can come just in your everyday life—when you’re out for a walk, cooking, or you’re watching a movie. God can talk to you anywhere, anytime! Trust in Him for the counsel you need!
