The Culture Of Jesus

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (NKJV)

Culture affects us all. Your country has a prevailing culture, and so does your family. Each workplace has a culture too, but do you know what the most important culture is? It’s Jesus’ culture, and as Christians, we need to study the Bible to understand it, because it’s the culture that we all need to adopt.

When Jesus walked the planet, He modelled a certain way of living and of interacting with others. I like to call His culture a “LAF” culture (Love, Accept and Forgive) because He loved people the way they were, He accepted them as messed up or as perfect as they thought they were, and He forgave them, even when they rejected Him and nailed Him to a cross.

To embrace this culture of Jesus, the first thing you need to do is begin to understand His love for you—a love that is unconditional and without strings attached. You see, we are surrounded by toxic, conditional love. We constantly receive messages from the cultures that surround us that would have us believe we are more lovable when we do or have certain things or look a certain way. Jesus’ culture is revolutionary because His love is not based on what we do, have or look like; it’s based on who HE is, which means His love for you will never change or diminish, no matter what.

The more you begin to realize this love that He has for you, the more you are empowered to adopt His culture and approach all of your relationships with LAF: love, acceptance and forgiveness.
