The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
John 10:10 (AMPC)
Some of the old hymns we sing are absolutely beautiful. On the other hand, some of them seem to contribute to a culture I hate.
The lyrics I’m talking about make it seem like we’re living in a world of woe, taking it one day at a time, doomed to barely get by as we plead for mercy drops to fall around us, just holding the fort until Jesus comes back.
This kind of attitude creates a victim mentality and causes people to think they’re locked in to the life they’re living. But God wants to give us the desires of our hearts! (See Psalm 37:4.) Jesus came so we could live abundant lives, not settle for whatever happens to come our way!
God created you to rise up and live life to the fullest!
He wants you to enjoy the planet, enjoy your marriage, enjoy your kids, and enjoy your friends! Sure, Jesus did say that we’re going to have trouble in this world, but in the next sentence he said, “But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Let’s not forget that part! And today’s verse says Jesus came so we could enjoy life!
If you’re surrounded by people who judge those who enjoy the blessings they have in their lives, you need to make a decision. Are you going to be limited by their religious misbeliefs? Or are you going to go after what God says you can have?
You were created to live an awesome life. Enjoy!
