For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)
God has prearranged paths for our lives, but following them is our choice. After all, today’s verse doesn’t say He forces us to walk out the paths He’s preplanned for us; it says we should.
Of course, you can do things your own way and find a level of success. But it won’t be as rich or fulfilling as pursuing God’s paths for your life. His plans are where you’ll discover your divine purpose.
That’s because He has created specific abilities and interests within you that come alive and thrive when you walk in His plans for you. Not only that, but sticking to God’s pathways for your life helps uncover other gifts within you which would have otherwise gone undiscovered.
The Amplified Classic translation of today’s verse says that following the roads God has prepared for us will lead us to live the good life.
Now, let me qualify what that means. “The good life” doesn’t necessarily mean a certain annual income and a problem-free life of luxury. It means living out your destiny. The good life is where you’re at your best and feel complete. It’s a satisfying zone where your life will have the most significance, greatest impact and where you’ll experience the richest blessings.
Over the next few days, I’m going to talk about how to stay on the paths God has for you—or how to get back on track if you think you’ve strayed from where He has called you. But for today, meditate on this truth: God has paths prepared for you to follow, and the choice to do so is yours.
