The Best Part Of Life

But the Lord replied to her by saying, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things. Luke 10:41 (AMPC)

It’s amazing how life can easily take over if we are not careful. Our ‘to do’ lists seem to get longer and we are constantly preoccupied with fixing, cleaning, organizing and maintaining. We can end up in a constant state of stress, unable to create any time to enjoy and relax.

Most of us don’t consider that every increase in life requires a new level of management. When our income increases, more money means more management. If we buy more toys for ourselves—a boat, a second car, a cabin—it all costs us time and effort to maintain.

If we are not careful, we will spend all of our time looking after our stuff while ignoring the big picture. We can become so busy managing our blessings that we have no time for the One who blessed us with them in the first place.

I am not saying that you shouldn’t manage your responsibilities; just keep the bigger picture in mind. Where is your life heading? What do you value?

If you are waiting for the moment when everything on your ‘to do’ list is done to focus on what you value, it will never happen. Let’s not become overly consumed with managing stuff.

The best part of life isn’t the toys, nice yard and clean house. It’s the family who lives in it.
