Why Spend Time with God?

Leon FontaineDevoted

God chose us to be in a relationship with Him even before He laid out plans for this world.

Ephesians 1:4 (VOICE)

In the busyness of everyday life, spending time with God can often fall to the bottom of the to-do list. In fact, it can start to feel like just one more chore you need to do.

If you’ve been feeling this way lately, it may be because you’ve been thinking about it all wrong. You see, you don’t spend time with God for His benefit or to appease Him somehow; you spend time with God because it benefits you!

Maybe you’ve forgotten how energizing and empowering it is to spend time with God and to read His Word. Or maybe you’ve overcomplicated things, and have turned something beautiful and natural into something of a ritual that you’ve become bored with.

The truth is, time with God can be as natural and normal as time with any friend.

Although you can’t see Him, you can talk to Him using natural, everyday language. You may not hear an audible voice, but you might get a sense of His answers deep inside you—similar to a gut feeling.

Another way you might sense His leading is through a sense of peace about a certain direction or decision. He also leads you through His Word. Certain concepts jump out at you as you read them, or come to mind when you have a decision to make.

Instead of making time with God a chore on your to-do list, try just talking to Him periodically as you go about your day today. He cares about everything you’re doing and wants to guide you in your everyday life.
