Spectacular or Supernatural?

Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.
2 Timothy 1:9 (NKJV)

There’s a big difference between the supernatural and the spectacular.

Looking for the supernatural is okay. God is supernatural, so it’s good to look for evidence of His work everywhere you go. But when God is at work, it’s not always spectacular.

The problem occurs when we assume that if we don’t get holy goose bumps, clouds of smoke or some other spectacular evidence, God must not be at work. In thinking this way,
we miss what God is doing. We miss the sacredness in the mundane. We miss God in everyday life. If you’re only looking for God in the spectacular, you’ll miss the supernatural every time.

This is really crucial because so many people have missed God on the hunt for the obviously five-sense overwhelming, miraculous things God does. But you can’t look for the spectacular to lead your life.

Answers to prayer aren’t always spectacular either. O en when we pray and then wait for some sort of show-stopping miracle to occur, we miss what God is doing. God can answer prayers through very natural means. He can put you into contact with a diligent doctor or natural health consultant. He can orchestrate a meeting with someone who has the answer to the financial dilemma you face. He is at work as you plan, strategize and problem solve.

So instead of expecting a spectacular miracle to be the answer to every problem, believe for God’s still small voice to guide you in natural ways as well.
