And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. Matthew 24:12 (NKJV)
Another passion-killer is sin. Sin breeds indifference, and if left unchecked, indifference will slowly eat away at your passion for the things of God.
Now, it’s important to recognize that your relationship with God is based on Jesus and His ability to stay sin-free. You can’t earn your own righteousness—it’s a gift you accept. As a believer, you and God are on good terms. He’s not cursing you or keeping a record against you.
However, to sin means to miss the mark for God’s best. When you make decisions that aren’t His best, you won’t experience the best. It’s not because God is withholding from you. It’s simply because you chose something less than His incredible plan for you.
When it comes to passionately living out your purpose, the devil would like nothing more than to derail you with sin and snuff out your passion for the things of God.
The good news is that you are equipped with Holy Spirit. Romans 8:9 (NLT) says, “But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you.” Now, sin is always destructive. But as a believer, sin no longer has to have control over you. Holy Spirit’s power is in you instead. When you allow Him to direct you, He helps you make wise decisions and stay on track for God’s best.
As you follow His lead, you’ll keep your passion alive. Your focus will be on God’s purposes and His calling on your life—and anything less won’t even be attractive to you anymore!
