Say It Until You See It; See It Until You Feel It

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.  Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

Jesus taught in Mark 11:24 to believe you already have your prayers answered even before you pray. Although this sounds great, I’m sure you have your doubts at times. We all do. So…how can we go from being uncertain to being confident He’ll come through?

Let’s pretend that you’ve been feeling down lately. Depression can have physical, relational or mental components and other forms of treatment may be necessary, but here are three other things you can do:

  1. Find Bible verses that promise God wants you to have an amazing life, and meditate on them. Really let their meaning sink in.
  2. Thank God for His promises and claim them for your life. Even if you don’t feel it yet, say something like, “Thank you that I’m happy and blessed. His joy is my strength.” Keep in mind I’m not suggesting that you quote verses all day long in a rote kind of way. Faith does come by hearing, but you need to connect your heart to the words that come from your mouth.
  3. Allow Holy Spirit to help you build a new vision. Connect your heart to the words you say by allowing them to create a new picture inside…one that affects your emotions. Just to say it is not faith. To say it until you see it and see it until you feel it…that’s faith.

Begin to see yourself laughing, loving and doing life with a smile on your face. As you continue to do this day after day, the feelings associated with this picture will rise up inside you. You will begin to destroy negative pictures of living a depressed life…and that’s when things will begin to change!
