SAY GOOD-BYE TO MURPHY’S LAW!

They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.  Psalm 1:3 (NLT)

Have you heard of Murphy’s Law? The premise of it is, “If anything can go wrong, it will.” As amusing as it sounds, it’s a pessimistic idea that can get into your heart and begin to affect your beliefs. Maybe you hang around certain people who subscribe to this view or you have started to accept it yourself.

Years ago, I had to deal with one of those Murphy’s Law beliefs that began to affect me. It was, “Things are going good, so something bad has to happen.” Whenever things in my life were going smoothly, I found myself anxiously waiting for the other shoe to drop.

But the more I studied the Word, the more I realized I needed to kick Murphy to the curb for good and speak God’s Word! For example, Psalm 1:1–3 says that as you carefully choose whose company you keep and grow in the Word, you’ll walk in blessing. On top of that, everything you do will prosper.

Notice that today’s verse doesn’t say you will prosper “in just a few areas” or “occasionally,” but in all you do. Maybe you’re thinking, “Well, I can’t have my cake and eat it too.” But today’s scripture says you can when you serve God!

Now, that doesn’t mean maturing believers live perfect lives or never endure any trials or heartache—after all, life is a journey. These three verses in Psalm 1 simply show that as we mature in our Christian walk, we stop expecting things to go wrong. Instead, we grow to not only anticipate but experience strength, fruitfulness and success.

Murphy’s Law is no match for God’s Word!
