Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Matthew 6:27 (NLT)
Sometimes it can feel as though life is moving at the speed of light. If you feel like an ever-increasing list of commitments is taking over your time until there’s nothing left, you’re not alone.
We hear a lot about difficulties working moms face in finding a balance between work and family life, but plenty of dads struggle with the exact same problem. According to a study performed by the Boston College Center for Work and Family, over 50 percent of dads would consider giving up their job to stay home with their kids if finances permitted.
A similar study done by the Pew Research Center found that half of working dads find balancing work and family responsibilities ‘very’ or ‘somewhat’ difficult—pretty comparable to the 56 percent of working moms who struggle similarly. Actually, fathers are more likely to feel that they don’t get enough time with their kids—46 percent compared to 23 percent of moms.
You may not be able to quit your job, but you can set some boundaries when it comes to your commitments. It is impossible to work 16-hour days 7 days a week, raise great kids, have a great marriage and volunteer for a number of great causes all at the same time. So, take an inventory to determine if you are really spending your time on what matters to you.
There is no use stressing about your time. Today’s verse says it doesn’t add a single moment to our life. Instead, why don’t you try recording how you spend your time for a week? You might discover that you can reclaim some of your time and become more intentional about how you live your life.
