And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. Acts 2:17 (NKJV)
We are currently living in what the Bible refers to as the last days—the period of time right after Jesus died until He comes again. And in these last days, God promised to pour out His Spirit on all people, resulting in prophesies, visions and dreams.
When we think of prophesy, we often think of a time when someone received a message from God on behalf of someone else. While this does happen, prophesy is not limited to what we can hear from God through others. We can prophecy over our own future.
You prophesy when you declare God’s promises over your life.
As a believer, the words you speak are powerful. They have an effect on your spirit, soul and body. As you learn to harness that power, you can bring incredible change into your life.
God’s promises for you and the words you speak in response to those promises paint pictures on your heart—hope-filled visions and dreams for the future. And if you keep prophesying these promises over your life, you begin to walk into those promises with faith and excitement.
God has exciting dreams He wants to plant in your heart. Speak the promises you find in the Bible out loud—promises of fulfillment, purpose, adventure, health and joy. Meditate on these promises, picture them and let them cause your heart to beat a little faster. Prophesy over your future, realizing that in Christ, you have everything you need within you to walk in all that God says you can have!
