Where there is no vision, the people perish. Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)
As a believer, your relationship with God is solid. But that doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want without earthly consequences. These consequences don’t come from God; they aren’t some sort of punishment. It’s just that every decision you make has a corresponding result.
Proverbs 29:18 says that where there is no vision people perish, and it’s so true. Often we get ourselves into trouble because we haven’t taken the time to play out the vision of where we’re heading.
If you want to know what you’ll be doing in 10 years, look at what you’re doing to- day and play out where your habits and behaviour will take you.
Let’s say you’re cheating on your taxes. Play that movie out. What happens if you get audited one day and you have to pay years of back taxes? What if you mess up your kids’ chances of going to university? What will happen to your reputation when everyone finds out? Is it worth it just to save a few bucks?
Let’s say you’re attracted to someone other than your spouse. You’re spending extra time with that person, and think you’re in control. Play that scenario out. What happens if things go too far? What will your kids think? Play it out further. What will it be like for your kids to have to visit both of you in different places?
What if you never confront an issue that’s eating you up inside? Play it out. How will that affect your relationships?
Where are you heading? If you continue doing what you’re doing (or NOT doing), where will you be in 10 years? What do you need to do differently to get a different result?
