“…the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced.” Mark 4:19 (NLT) Owning nice things and having a high level of success can be a good thing. We don’t have to allow them to hold our calendars or our wallets in their clutches. We don’t have to let them steal our joy and consume our thinking. In Luke 10:38-42, Jesus had lunch at Mary and Martha’s house. Mary took the time to sit at Jesus’ feet—she had learned when to disconnect from her ‘to do’ list. Martha, however, was “overly occupied and too busy” with making lunch. Although Jesus Himself was sitting in her house, she was distracted …
The Best Part Of Life
But the Lord replied to her by saying, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things. Luke 10:41 (AMPC) It’s amazing how life can easily take over if we are not careful. Our ‘to do’ lists seem to get longer and we are constantly preoccupied with fixing, cleaning, organizing and maintaining. We can end up in a constant state of stress, unable to create any time to enjoy and relax. Most of us don’t consider that every increase in life requires a new level of management. When our income increases, more money means more management. If we buy more toys for ourselves—a boat, a second car, a cabin—it all costs us time and effort to maintain. If we are not careful, we will …
Self-Discipline
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) All success is preceded by one small but powerful habit: self-discipline. Getting up at the crack of dawn for a jog, completing work assignments on time, and sticking with a diet all require self-discipline. In biblical times, a city’s walls were its security, keeping good in and the bad out. Proverbs 25:28 (NIV) says: “Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” Someone who lacks self-discipline lacks the ability to control what they bring in, keep out and put out in life. For example, without self-discipline, it’s impossible to eat a healthy diet. You bring …
