United Prayer

[They] lifted their voices together with one united mind to God. Acts 4:24 (AMP) Over the past few days, we’ve been learning about different types of prayer so we can become more effective when we pray. Today let’s talk about united prayer. United prayer is very similar to the prayer of agreement; however, it involves a larger number of people agreeing in prayer. Acts 4:23–31 gives a great example of this type of prayer. After being released from prison, Peter and John and a group of other believers joined together to pray. When they finished praying, the building they were in began to shake. They were all filled with the Spirit and were empowered to speak boldly about Jesus. Great power is made available when …

Praying In The Spirit

I will pray in the spirit, and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand. 1 Corinthians 14:15 (NLT) Praying in the spirit (also called praying in tongues) is the next type of prayer we’ll talk about in our series about prayer. When you pray in the spirit, you’re not praying in a language that you understand, but in one that God understands. The Message version of 1 Corinthians 14:2 puts it this way: “If you praise him in the private language of tongues, God understands you but no one else does, for you are sharing intimacies just between you and him.” Many believers find praying in the spirit a …

The Prayer Of Agreement In Marriage

Leon FontaineDevoted

For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them. Matthew 18:20 (NLT) Over the years, my wife Sally and I have often prayed the prayer of agreement together. Often during the day, I’ll give Sally a call or she’ll call me to quickly agree on what we believe God is going to do in an area of our lives. Whatever the need—whether a health issue, an important meeting or a financial decision—we talk about it briefly and then claim His promises together. As I mentioned yesterday, the prayer of agreement is powerful. Unfortunately, it is severely undervalued by married couples. A marriage relationship is unique and powerful, and when spouses come together to pray in agreement, it’s truly amazing …
