For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) I’ve heard that banks around the world hold unclaimed riches, awaiting the heirs of these estates to come forward. Imagine having wealth and property due to you but without knowing about it, you never exercise your right to receive it. It is the same with the inheritance Jesus has won for you. Everything we need to know about our inheritance can be found in the Bible. But, just like a will, if you do not read it you will never know …
God’s Word is like Seed
For God’s nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; 1 John 3:9 (AMPC) When you plant a small apple seed under the ground, it has the potential to grow into a tree that produces thousands of apples in its lifetime. The growth is exponential. Similarly, choosing to think about God’s Word is much more powerful than merely replacing negative thoughts with positive ones because God’s Word is like seed. When planted in your mind, God’s Word changes your beliefs, creating a harvest of good things in your life. You do not merely replace a negative thought with a positive one—you replace a belief system which controls thousands of thoughts and actions in your life. In the Greek …
Set Your Mind on the Spirit
For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:6 (ESV) If a snare catches an animal around the foot, it holds them, preventing them from eating, drinking and living life. Proverbs 29:25 says that fear is like a snare. It tries to stop you from enjoying relationships and life in general. However, you can free yourself from the snare of fear in every area of your life. Some say that you only need to pray and command fear to go and it will leave. However, there is one more step. As long as you remain focused on fear, fear will not leave. Prayer is vital but you also need to …
Be Aware of Agendas
Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.” Matthew 4:8-9 (NLT) We need to begin looking at what is behind agendas. Satan’s temptations of Jesus are prime examples. (See Matthew 4:2-11.) First, Satan told Jesus to turn stones into bread if He was hungry. That temptation doesn’t seem bad. After all, God provided manna and quail for the Israelites. So, what was wrong with Jesus turning stone into bread? There was something else behind that temptation. Next, Satan tried to get Jesus to jump off the peak of the Temple—even quoting …
What Does Jesus Love?
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NLT) How does Jesus feel about the world? As a young believer, I’d read verses like 1 John 2:15-17 and James 4:4 that talked about the world’s corruptive influence and how we are not to love the world or befriend it. Yet I also found verses like today’s that spoke of God’s deep love for the world and how Jesus died for it. How are all these scriptures true? The better I began to understand God’s Word, the more I noticed people in one of two ditches on this topic. In one ditch, I …
