One Part Faith: One Part Work

Leon FontaineDevoted

Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works. James 2:26 (NLT)

Faith and work are not mutually exclusive.

Some think they can believe their way into a good life. They believe that God will take care of their marriage and kids. He will put food on the table and ensure that everything in life works out. If they have prayed, working at a solution would mean they have stopped believing God for the answer. After praying, they think that seeking out medical assistance or natural remedies for an illness would show a lack of faith.

This is the wrong perspective entirely. Faith without works is dead.

God does not stop working when you start. He works in and through you to make it happen, giving you a sense of peace when you choose a plan of action. He also leads you to people who can be a part of the solution and He makes unbelievable “coincidences” happen as you roll up your sleeves and get to work.

God does not drop great careers and relationships from Heaven. You have to work hard at it while you continue to put your trust in Him.

In contrast, work isn’t everything. Works without faith is a passionless, hopeless endeavour where you work hard for minuscule results. To really achieve your God-given dreams, you need one-part faith and one-part work. What are you stretching your faith for today? And what can you work at to help bring it about?
