My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Proverbs 4:20 (NLT)
When I worked in emergency rescue, one day I was performing CPR on a patient in the back of the ambulance when my driver forgot to close the air vents. As we raced over gravel roads, dust began to fill the ambulance. A pesticide must have settled onto the road from a recent spraying because this dust suddenly made my breathing very difficult.
As soon as we arrived at the hospital and had placed the patient in the hands of the emergency doctors, I motioned to a nurse to help me. I was gasping for air, barely getting enough oxygen in to keep me conscious. They immediately went to work to open my airways. After a while, all seemed well so I went home.
In the middle of the night, however, I woke up to the same gasping. I reached for Sally and she immediately prayed for me but I continued to labour at breathing. We prepared to head to the hospital and as I reached for my coat, a cassette that contained a message about healing fell to the floor from the top shelf of our closet.
Sally and I looked at each other. I motioned to the cassette player and we sat down to listen. After two or three minutes I said to Sally, “Okay, now let’s pray. “Instantly my lungs opened and I could breathe with ease.
Why did something immediate happen after the second prayer? I needed to get to a place of believing where faith could come in.
Do you need a miracle? What are you doing to feed yourself God’s Word?
