In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35
If you’ve given your life to Christ, you have the ability to experience joy unspeakable and full of glory (1 Peter 1:8-9). You can draw from the Spirit of God in you to walk in joy in your life.
Think of it like filling a pitcher of water. By practicing joy, we draw from a bottomless well of joy that’s in us because of Holy Spirit. However, if we don’t also realize what might be interfering with that joy, it’s like trying to fill a pitcher with a big hole in the bottom.
Over the last few days, we’ve covered a few of the things that prevent us from walking in that joy: getting weary, forgetting to recharge our batteries, being overly concerned with impressing others, feeling unworthy or like a failure and having unchecked sin. Another one is selfishness.
We’re bombarded with messages that try to tell us how to be happy. Get more things, have more fun, lose that weight, travel more, get a bigger house—but these are empty promises. The truth is these just cause you to think about yourself more—what you need and want—and they actually steal your enjoyment.
We all need to be reminded to discover the joy of living beyond self. That’s where the biggest sense of adventure and fulfillment comes from in life!
Need more joy in your life? Spread some joy each day! Smile, help, appreciate and encourage those you meet each day and you’ll be amazed at the joy you’ll feel flowing through and blessing you!
