Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].
1 Corinthians 13:7 (AMPC)
God’s love for you isn’t earned through perfect behaviour.
Just take a look at 1 Corinthians 13 and you’ll see what I’m talking about. This famous chapter on love is all about loving imperfection, and since God is love (1 John 4:8), this chapter accurately describes how He loves you and me.
Verse 4 in the Amplified Classic Version says, “Love endures long.” If God’s love needs to endure, He must realize that we’re going to do things He doesn’t like, yet He loves us anyway!
God’s love for you is patient and ever-ready to extend forgiveness and understanding. “It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly” (v. 5).
His love “does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]” (v. 5).
“It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail” (v. 6).
And in verse 7, it says that love bears up under anything and everything, it’s ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless, and it endures everything without weakening. There is nothing you could ever do to stop God from loving you, and God is always ready to believe the best in you.
God, the creator of the universe, believes in YOU, and His love for you will never fail (v. 8)!
