When you love others, you complete what the law has been after all along. Romans 13:8–10 (MSG)
If you’ve given your life to Jesus Christ, you are born again. Jesus lives inside you. But this Christian life will be hard if you do not develop your love walk, because you’ll be trying to obey God out of law instead of love.
When you try to obey God out of law, you’ll tend to look for where the line is so you can stay just under it. You’ll ask things like, “What can and can’t I do?”, “Is it bad to swear?”, “What about the odd white lie?” You’ll be focused on figuring out all the rules.
People who love don’t need a whole bunch of rules. Because I love my wife, she doesn’t need to give me a list of rules to follow. I want to do everything I can to love her, to honour her, to choose her.
The same is true when it comes to your relationship with God. As you develop your love walk, you naturally begin to want to follow God’s ways and do things that please Him.
The Message Bible puts it this way: The law code—don’t sleep with another person’s spouse, don’t take someone’s life, don’t take what isn’t yours, don’t always be wanting what you don’t have, and any other “don’t” you can think of—finally adds up to this: Love other people as well as you do yourself. You can’t go wrong when you love others. When you add up everything in the law code, the sum total is love (Romans 13:8–10).
Develop your love for God and others and you’ll enjoy serving God!
