Love Comes First

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.  1 Corinthians 13:13 (NKJV)

Today’s verse says we are to live in faith, hope and love, but that the greatest of the three is love. Have you ever wondered why?

One reason love is the greatest is because it came first. You may have grown up thinking that you need to earn God’s love through good behaviour, but God loved you long before you were even born. God’s love for you isn’t based on obedience or achievements, which is proven by this fact: God so loved the world that He sent Jesus to save everyone (John 3:16), including those who have never done a thing for Him. Another reason love is the greatest is because it leads to hope and faith.

The more you realize how much God loves you, the more you realize that His plans for you are all good. This gives rise to hope. You begin to expect good things, and as you look for good, you experience more and more of it. You become fully persuaded that gifts and blessings are flowing into your life, and then, my friend, you begin to live in a state of hopeful, expectant faith every day!

Faith, hope and love are three steps that lead to a miraculous life! Today, make God’s love your focus. Become more aware of the love, presence and power of God that is around you at all times. Tuning in to the warmth of God’s love empowers you to share that love and make a difference everywhere you go, so get filled up with the love of God and spread hope and joy everywhere you go!
