And behold, the Lord passed by…but the Lord was not in the wind… the Lord was not in the earthquake… the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. 1 Kings 19:11–13 (NKJV)
As we’ve been discussing over the past few days, there are two things you need to do every day to stay energized: feed on God’s Word and spend time in communication with Holy Spirit.
When I say “feed on God’s Word,” I don’t mean read it, keep it on your nightstand, memorize it, or confess it out loud (although all of those are great). When you feed on His Word, take it one step further—meditate on it.
For example, let’s say you read Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path” (NLT). To feed on it, start by asking Holy Spirit, what does that mean for my life?
He might remind you that when you read His Word, it lights your path, which means you have direction for every decision. He may bring your attention to a financial, work, or family decision that’s bothering you, reminding you that you have the creator of the universe inside you, guiding you with His perfect Word.
Thoughts like these are one of the ways Holy Spirit speaks to you. You’re hearing His “still small voice” within you (1 Kings 19:13, NKJV), which causes His peace and strength to rise within you.
Don’t underestimate the power of meditation time with Holy Spirit. Turn the rest of the world off for a while and talk to Him. If you find it difficult at first, start with just a couple of minutes and build from there. Before long, your time with Holy Spirit will be your favourite time of the day.
