As He is, so are we in this world. 1 John 4:17 (NKJV)
In this world we are just like Jesus, and this packs a lot of mind-blowing revelation when you really think about it.
Like Jesus, you can go about your everyday life with all the power of God within you. In fact, Jesus said, I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same great works, and even greater works (John 14:12, NLT). Think about how powerful that statement is for a minute!
Not only are you able to do what Jesus did, but you have been given everything you need to be like Him in character as well.
What was Jesus like? Often, we think of the most obvious qualities. He was compassionate, loving, forgiving, gentle, patient, humble and committed. He was a servant leader who had complete self-control. But what about the fact that Jesus rebelled against the religious status-quo? Do we forget that Jesus was a passionate powerhouse who changed the world forever? He wasn’t timid or soft-spoken. Was Jesus boring? Not a chance! He spoke to crowds of thousands and had no problem confronting powerful religious leaders.
At the same time, Jesus was contemporary. He had favour with man (Luke 2:52). He understood and could relate to those around Him. He respected people and He gained their respect. In fact, He had such incredible love and unconditional acceptance for people that they flocked to Him by the thousands. Even the tax collectors and prostitutes loved Him—people who were rejected by the rest of society.
As Jesus is, so are you in this world. Take some time to meditate on what Jesus was really like, and compare this to what you think it means to be a Christian.
