For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
John 3:17 (NKJV)
Jesus’ finished work of the cross brought us peace.
When Jesus was born, the angels sang of peace on earth and good will toward men (Luke 2:14). They didn’t add, “If you keep my law.” Jesus came to restore the relationship between God and humanity so, when you accept Christ, you are at peace with God.
Under the old covenant, people couldn’t know this peace that surpasses all understanding. They were always left to wonder if they were good enough for God. But now, when we accept Christ, nothing stands between God and us.
However, just because you have access to this peace doesn’t mean you’re experiencing it.
If you keep wondering which of your failures God is going to get you for, you’re not going to sense the peace that exists between you and God. You’re always going to be stressed out.
Colossians 3:15 says, “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful” (NKJV). In other words, you need to let this peace dominate your thinking. You can do this by remembering that Jesus didn’t come to condemn or to judge the world, but that the world through Him would be restored into relationship with a Father God who loves them.
God loves you so much, and His priority is a relationship with you. He wants you to experience His love and peace—not just know about it but experience it. In fact, peace with Him is what Jesus died to give you.
