Leaving The Crowd Behind

Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. Mark 4:36

Sometimes we have to leave the multitude to fulfill our destiny.

Over the last few days, we’ve been talking about how Jesus taught us to deal with the storms of life, based on Mark 4. As you read this portion of scripture, you’ll notice that Jesus left the multitude in order to go to the other side of the Sea of Galilee.

Even when a storm came up, Jesus didn’t turn back to the familiarity of where he had just been. He pushed on toward where he had set out to go. How Jesus handled a storm shows us how we can handle the storms of life because he lives in us and empowers us to do what he did.

Sometimes as Christians, we have to leave old ways to embrace the

Christian life. For some of us, it even costs us relationships with old friends and family who won’t accept the new life we’ve chosen. When things get tough, it can be tempting to want to go back to what’s familiar, or to what everyone else is doing, whether that involves abusing alcohol or drugs, or spending time with old friends who don’t share the same beliefs. But there are times when we have to leave the multitude.

Jesus empowers us to keep moving forward.

It’s not always going to feel comfortable. Whenever we do something

new, it feels uncomfortable—even scary. But always remember that Christ in you empowers you to keep doing what he’s called you to do and to keep following God’s Word.
