Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. Psalm 103:1–2 (NLT)
Over the past two days, we’ve been discussing ways to learn and grow in wisdom. We talked about the positive things we can learn from painful situations if we take the time to think about them. But today, let’s talk about learning from victories.
Many don’t take time to analyze what caused their success so they can re-create it. For example, the first few years as our church grew, I wasn’t exactly sure why. I had a few ideas, but as the years went by, I began to recognize what worked with more clarity. Analyzing these successes lead to more success.
Looking back on your victories in life also infuses confidence in you for the future. When David came face to face with a screaming giant, he remembered how he had killed a lion and a bear before. These victories prompted him to say, “I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God!” (1 Samuel 17:36, NLT). David’s confidence came from remembering how God had given him success in the past.
When facing a big challenge, go back and replay your past victories. Learn who you are in Christ and realize that you have what it takes because of Jesus. Let this knowledge stir up your faith for whatever you’re facing. Look at what God has done for you. Why would He abandon you now?
