Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (NKJV)
We’ve been on a series in this devotional about a biblical response to mood disorders. This is an important topic, not because it negates the use of medications, counselling, or natural health alternatives, but because it is something we can implement in conjunction with expert advice and wisdom.
As you can imagine, a biblical response involves prayer, but prayer is not about begging a reluctant God to intervene. Prayer is two things: it’s communication with God, and it is exercising our authority in Christ to speak His will into existence (Romans 4:17).
God’s Word teaches us to speak to the mountainous problems of our lives and tell them to move (Mark 11:23). When we claim and speak out God’s promises, we get into agreement with God to cause His will to be done here on earth as it is in heaven. There’s a part that God plays and a part that we play.
When it comes to mood disorders, I’m not saying that we need to lie that we’re doing fine when we aren’t. Talking about your feelings in an effort to release them or to find solutions is good, but keep your speech full of hope and faith.
Speak God’s truth for you as a believer, which is that dis-ease, depression and mood disorders have no right to be in your life! You are entitled to His promises. Keep claiming them out loud, and it will help you build your faith to move toward all that has been given to you in Christ: deep joy, incredible peace and miraculous healing.
