For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11
Dreams are motivating. If you went to college or university, a dream of one day being able to work in your career of choice is what drove you to turn off the TV and hit the books. And if you ever built or renovated your house, that hard work was also driven by a dream. You likely envisioned hosting parties and enjoying cozy winter nights or summer fun in the yard with the family. These dreams fueled you to work hard for weeks, staying motivated to see the dream to the end.
Actually, having a dream is necessary. If you lose sight of your dreams, you will lose motivation. You need to keep envisioning your dreams to maintain the energy it takes to walk them out.
Not only is it important that you keep your dreams alive, but you also need to realize that God has great dreams for you.
Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God’s plans are good, but you may be wondering if he has more specific dreams for you, based on your individual gifts, abilities, preferences, personality and passions. Many people get anxious that they’re going to miss their calling from God, but I’d like to encourage you today. He’s not trying to keep it a secret from you.
God knows what will make you happiest and most fulfilled, and he wants to lead you straight to it. Just focus on building your relationship with him and serving others, and he’ll lead you every step of the way.
