Joy Skills: Taking Action

Leon FontaineDevoted

Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us. 2 Timothy 3:17 (MSG)

To live a life full of joy, there are certain skills you need to develop as a believer. We’ve been discussing this over the past few days, and today we’ll cover two other important skills to develop: taking responsibility and taking action.

It can be easy to adopt a victim mentality in life. But as a victim, you hand your power to someone else. When you’re a victim to poor treatment in life, very often you have absolutely no control over what you suffered. All the same, if you maintain a victim mentality, you carry that identity into your everyday life.

Now, I’m not saying that you should take responsibility for the bad that has been done to you. Abuse is horrible, and it is in no way your fault. What I am saying is that you have a great deal of influence over how you experience life today and into the future—which is great news!

It’s a process that is walked out day by day, but you can improve your experience through the actions you take starting right now. You can walk toward forgiving and forgetting what is behind and press toward the freedom God has for you (Philippians 3:13–14). As you begin to forgive, you will be the one who is set free.

You have a great life ahead of you, so take action. As our verse today says, God’s Word can help you to be proactive. It can empower you to do something different and to live the amazing life you are entitled to through Christ. And as you actively create the life of your dreams, you will experience more joy!
