If I buy a smartphone and I’ve never owned one before, will I immediately benefit from all its features?
No, I need to download the features I want on it and learn how to work it. The same is true when you become a new creation in Christ by giving your life to him. To get in on all the benefits, you need to keep downloading the Word of God into you.
Romans 12:2 says not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Even though as a believer you have a new nature you need to get God’s Word inside you. Otherwise, you’re going to fall into sin.
If you begin to renew your mind regarding who God says you are and you start to realize the power you have in Christ, it’s stunning how your life will change. Instead of trying to become something you’re not, you start to naturally become who you really are: a child of God.
You’re not barely getting by, a victim to the stresses and temptations of this world. It’s not that you need God to save you and take you to heaven, away from this terrible planet. Heaven is going to be awesome, but Jesus also came so we could have and enjoy life on this planet (John 10:10)!
You can live a life of joy, peace, strength, courage and fulfillment because Christ lives in you and He guides and empowers you!
