Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15 (NKJV)
All too often we get caught up thinking we haven’t done enough to deserve all the good we have coming to us in Christ. The funny thing is that’s true! We don’t deserve it…but that’s irrelevant. Our faults and failures can’t exclude us from an agreement that we didn’t secure.
You can’t break an agreement you didn’t make in the first place! The first agreement God had with mankind was between God and Adam. Adam broke that agreement, causing mankind to take on the nature of sin. But this second agreement was between God and Jesus. That’s why Jesus came as a human being—so that he could fulfill every condition on our behalf. When we give our lives to Christ, we become children of God, taking on His nature!
When you gave your life to Christ, you weren’t making some sort of deal with God. You were receiving a gift. We think in terms of “if I do this, then I’ll get that,” but when it comes to His kingdom, it’s “Jesus did this, so I get that!”
What did Jesus do? He paid the debt for Adam’s treason, and purchased us back from the devil, to whom Adam had sold the whole human race. And what do you get? Salvation, heaven, relationship with God, Holy Spirit in you, His promises…a blessed life! All you need to do is receive the gift.
We can’t earn God’s love or favour. The gift is the same for all. So, when condemnation comes knocking and thoughts pop into your head about whether or not you deserve blessings or punishment, remember this. It’s not about you; it’s about Jesus!
